Assault on Precinct 13|

I like this flick. And I'm not given to love the action flicks. However, I gotta say, I like this flick. Good cast: Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Drea De Matteo (without the dreadful Brooklyn accent), Brian Dennehy, Gabriel Byrne, and John Leguizamo. Ethan plays a damn good cop (Training Day is still a favorite), and Laurence proves that he's moved beyond the pince-nez Ray-Bans and the Alligator Skin trench coat.
Put the following ingredients together, stir, and let sit on an open flame: One ex-undercover cop that has begun to atrophy behind a desk. One entire precinct about to be de-commissioned. A classically-trained crime lord with a penchant for crossword puzzles. Two ridiculously attractive women dressed in come-on outfits. One Puerto Rican druggie for comic relief. 127 uses of word beginning with f and ending with uck, and it's not Firetruck.
To protect his secrets, a dirty cop (Byrne) is prepared to wipe out everyone in Precinct 13 to silence the conveniently placed crime lord (Fishburne). That includes cops, cons, and anyone else that happens to be in the building.
Nice pacing, a decent score and good dialogue keep things moving from start to finish. Pacing is great. The violence is a bit much at times, but what can you do.
That's the movie. It also comes with a very nice selection of special features. Deleted Scenes, and features on stunts, weaponry, behind the scenes info, and a "First Look" from HBO. Not to mention commentary. We like commentary. Commentary good.
Assault is definitely worth a look. If you're a fan of the actors involved, a good cop thriller, or just want to watch a good flick, check it out. You won't be sorry.
