Genre-blurring Coheed and Cambria's latest release features ambitious lyrics, terrific hooks and lead singer, Claudio Sanchez's vocals that stretch the limits of mainstream music with their Geddy Lee-esque flavor. Yet the Kingston, New York, quartet isn't simply the emo-Rush, a label that so many critics have slapped them with. Driving guitar work from Travis Stever, solid bass playing from Michael Todd, and skilled skins work fromJoshua Eppard, all highlight the band's excellent musicianship. This is style and substance without compromising either. Mixing influences like Jethro Tull, 80's hair metal and rock operas like The Who's Tommy, the band is telling an epic tale and this album only represents part two. C&C's conceptual sophomore album is the best of both worlds, crunchy, progressive metal with intelligent lyrics which tell a story and keeps you guessing. With a fun, new music video featuring the single A Favor House Atlantic on MTV, C&C's latest is an album you should check out and enjoy the ride.
