The Good Life Lovers Need Lawyers, EP Saddle Creek
With a full album due in August, The Good Life sent us an early preview and the future looks very bright for Tim Kasher (Cursive) and bandmates Stefanie Drootin, Ryan Fox and Roger Lewis. Originally planned as a side project, The Good Life is a terrific blend of jangly guitars, bright keyboard play and dark lyrics drenched in syrupy goodness. Sometimes self-depricating and harsh, Kasher's songwriting cuts through the minutia of most pop music and transcends music into the heart. On the track, "Enterainer", The Good Life shies away from the all-too-cliché happy-go-lucky ditty about being a band and openly critiques the money-first, style-second and product-last attitude so common today. It is as refreshing as it is dark and it is a must listen for optimists and cynics alike.
