It's no surprise that band founder, Matt Pond, gets a little frustrated when people mistake him for a solo act. However, Matt Pond PA is a group and an experienced one at that. The quintet includes Matt Pond, singer/songwriter, Cellist Eve Miller, Drummer Dan Crowell, Bassist Will Levatino and Guitarist Brian Pearl. Making records together in some form since 1998, Emblems marks their 8th release and shows the world of indie pop a thing or two about creating chamber pop and using non-traditional instrumentation for lush and lavish sound. Combining cellos, acoustic and electric guitars, bass and drums, Matt Pond PA bring a sense of soothing, calm poetry to their work. Songs like "Closest (Look Out)" feature a more up tempo style yet still hold the charm of their earlier albums. Superchunk-esque, "Claire" further highlights a solid collection of heartfelt, pop-bliss and a band that's doing something very right.
