Barack Obama Action Figure from Jailbreak Toys

Jailbreak Toys gives you the power to infuse your toy collection with some political support of Barack Obama with the Obama Action Figure. The company has felt inspired by the senator’s vision and in their own words has “created The Obama Action Figure because every superhero should have one.” A good friend of mine went to the Democratic National Convention and when she saw this, she felt I had to have it (thanks again!). While I do whole-heartily support the Obama-Biden ticket, I’m going to review this toy with no political slant other than maybe one picture…

ESC Toys’ Kissaki – Wicked colorway

kiss3

ESC Toys’ newest toy may look cute, but beneath the robes of the innocent looking girl, Kissaki, a killer waits. The newest colorway of the toy is definitely “Wicked” with a great blend of shades of purple with black and blue-green highlights. In my opinion, this is the best colorway so far and I can’t help but think of the Incredible Hulk a bit when I look at the palette used.

Playmobil Pirate Dinghy, (4444). Target Exclusive!!!

dinghy_05.jpg

As far as we know, this is a Target exclusive. (It may also be available at Toys R Us or Wal*Mart.) For under $20, this set is an amazing value. When you think playmobil, you think quality, detail, imagination. With this set, the first thing I think is Wow! This is some great value!. For the price, you’re getting a nice playmobil pirate ship, a cannon, two pirates, some treasure, and loads of play time. I don’t typically think of playmobil as being a value purchase, because I love it so much, I can justify the cost, (you’re also paying for a quality that lasts forever, and probably multiple kids, yeah, the kids…)

MAD*L Phase 3

phase15.jpg

Collectors have waited almost two years for a new line of MAD*Ls, and while it was a long and painful wait, it was well worth it. This run is made up of three new designs from MAD himself, who has taken over the production of the toys. Don’t let this worry you concerning quality control though. The paint applications are very clean and the toys, like his new production company’s name are solid.

Like I said, there are three new designs in this phase. Well, four if you count the NYCC exclusive but more on that in a bit. I’m really stoked how each of these toys has its own character. Speaking of character, Phase 3 oozes it. MAD is an expert illustrator and the MAD*L form lends itself so well to this with its flat surfaces and large highly interpretive heads. If you’ve read my previous reviews, you know I love the toy and the concept behind it so we won’t rehash the subtleties of the design. However, we will take a closer look at each of the characters.

ESC Toys’ Dizign

dizign1_article.jpg

Erick Scarecrow‘s newest toy is a very interesting look at Kaiju. This is obviously a very urban influenced version of the classic monster toy, and it really is a great mix of modern and classic ideas. This gal made her debut at NYCC to a great response and is the first of the Old Skool Kaiju line for ESC Toys. While she looks like she’d be more at home in a dj booth or on the dance floor, she still has an evil twinge to her design telling us she’s ready to rumble or tear down some skyscrapers.

BCBCB Toys’ TOBOR by Joe Spada

tob2.jpg

It’s refreshing to come across a toy like TOBOR. This toy is a true labor of love for the creator, Joe Spada. He took his idea, made a plan, sold part of his toy collection, and made his own toy! BCBCB Toys made their debut at NYCC ’08 with a bubble topped robot with a green skull. You gotta admit that’s a good start.
