Essential Seven Worst Third Films in a Movie Trilogy

Movie sequels are never as good as the original. Rushed into production for a quick buck. Once in a while the second film proves this wrong, and is just as good or sometimes better! A third film is then expected to complete a movie trilogy. That’s when everything goes bad, ruined by the third film. Looking at all of the trilogy DVD box sets on my shelf, I identify the Essential Seven Worst Third Films in a Movie Trilogy:

Essential Seven Reasons I Hate Kevin Arnold

I recently began re-watching episodes of The Wonder Years on Netflix. (Note: The music changes are hard to accept) I haven’t watched the show since it first aired, so I was surprised by my reaction after a few episodes. Kevin Arnold is a manipulative, dishonest, and evil douchebag that I despise.

Yes, I realize that Kevin is just a teenager, and all teenagers are dicks. Everybody grows up, matures, and regrets things they did growing up, and I should just accept that fact that he is learning from his mistakes.  Kevin as an adult is the narrator to the show. He has the greatest memory of anybody that I ever met. While he reminisces about his childhood, I really see the narrator as a way to explain and provide valid reasons as to why he was such a terrible person. Just like the older wiser Kevin Arnold reflects back on his life, I reflect on the Essential Seven Reasons I Hate Kevin Arnold.

Essential Seven Rejected Titles for the Third Hobbit Film

At Comicon Peter Jackson revealed that he wanted the two Hobbit films to become a trilogy. New Line jumped at the chance, and quickly made this happen. This week it was announced that the second film would be renamed to The Desolation of Smaug with the third final film titled There and Back Again. The first film will still be called  An Unexpected Journey. Having read the book, I have an idea of how the films will be structured, and it makes sense. However, I think the title The Desolation of Smaug doesn’t work very well with the other titles. The good thing is that it is far better than the Essential Seven Rejected Titles for the third Hobbit Film:

Essential Seven Movie Gods

Gods or Deities, have always played a part in movie culture (oh and books!). Whether you believe in a God or not, the concept of a being that is worshipped is depicted in many different forms. Some depictions are of the Christian GOD. Other’s are supernatural or just objects. Of course you can’t overlook the fact that some don’t believe in anything. I’m not here to judge! Obviously religion is a touchy subject. Not everybody will enjoy this list.  Trying to stay away from a religious discussion, here are the Essential Seven Movie Gods:

Essential Seven Police Academy Obligatory Moments

With the death of Bubba Smith this week, I got nostalgic, and watched a few of the Police Academy films. The humor was always juvenile, but I loved it. After an enjoyable Police Academy marathon, I was inspired to write this weeks list about the franchise. So what made up a good Police Academy film? Well here are the Essential Seven Police Academy Obligatory moments:

Essential Seven Women Who Should Be On Your Freebie List! 2011 Edition

ross

In 2009, I wrote an Essential Seven List based on the episode of Friends entitled “The One With Frank Jr.” In the episode, Ross created a freebie list; celebrities they can sleep with, without your wife or girlfriend getting upset. No consequences! A majority of the episode focused on Ross deciding who should be on his list.

Now two years later, because we are guys, we need to update that list. Ross had his list laminated not allowing it to change. We say its important to update the list.

We also want to stress: There is absolutely no condition where we would touch anyone other than our wife / girlfriend and we are disgusted at the concept. Having indemnified ourselves here is who we would bang:

Essential Seven WWII-Era Comic Book Patriots Without Cool Movie Adaptations

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters today. Created in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Captain America wore his patriotism on his sleeve (not to mention his chest, head, shield, and pirate boots) and did his bit to save the world from the Axis Powers. And, after years of waiting (and one crappy movie starring the son of J. D. Salinger for Pete’s sake!), we’re finally getting a Cap movie! Of course, Captain America was not the only WWII-era freedom fighter. There were a host of others who hit the front lines. However, unlike Cap, most of them will never be seen on the big screen. Some are forgotten, some are ridiculous, but all of them make up the Essential Seven WWII-Era Comic Book Patriots Without Cool Movie Adaptations! Click below to check them out.

Essential Seven Weirdest Green Lantern Corps

The Green Lantern film is finally here, and the question on every geeks mind is it good? According to Rotten Tomatoes is sucks. I’m curious what the public response will be to the film. The Green Lantern world can be very confusing, and may not play well to all audiences. With Ryan Reynolds as the star, I’m not holding my breath that it is any good.

I was a casual Green Lantern reader. I didn’t collect the books, but I was familiar with the basic story. What I didn’t know is how weird the stories got. In doing some research into the Lantern Corps, I discovered that the ring doesn’t really examine the weirdness of its bearer. With that in mind, we take a look at the Essential Seven Weirdest Green Lanterns:

Essential Seven Thoughts on the Finale of Smallville

Sorry that this list is a few weeks old. I didn’t get a chance to finish it before I went on vacation. I’m glad I didn’t because it allowed me to re-watch the finale. Smallville was overall a great show. I loved the idea of focusing on Clark and his journey of becoming Superman. I just wish it didn’t take so damn long! For years the CW has teased us, standing behind their rule of no tights, no flight! Now that the show is over I have some final thoughts. For 10 seasons I have had a love / hate relationship with the show. That love / hate relationship concluded with the last episode. I didn’t hate it, but I have a lot of things that just felt wrong. I also had moments that fueled my love for Superman. Finally happy I have an extra free hour each week, here are my Essential Seven Thoughts on the Finale of Smallville:
