Finding movie locations can be a lot of fun, but it really sucks when you can’t go inside. This is especially true when the interior of a location was used for a film. A few famous locations allow you to actually go inside, and some even give tours! So here is the Essential Seven Movie Locations You Can Visit.
7) Quick Stop Groceries
Kevin Smith, at one time worked as an employee at both the Quick Stop Convenience and RST Video store next door. In the early 90′s he shot his Clerks during the stores’ off-hours. Kevin used the location numerous times in his follow up films. You can still go buy a pack of cigarettes as this location as it is still a working convenience store. The store is located at 58 Leonard Avenue in Leonardo, New Jersey.
6) Shawshank Prison
The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio was the prison where The Shawhank Redemption was filmed. Built in 1886, the prison was in full operational until 1972. In 1995, the prison was turned into a museum. The prison is located at 100 Reformatory Rd, Mansfield, OH
5) Doc Brown Mansion
In Back to the Future, Marty, visits Doc Brown at his Brown Mansion to help him return to 1985. The Gamble House in California was used for the exterior shots in the film. The interior was shot on a soundstage. The mansion was the summer home of one of the founders of Proctor & Gamble. The house has been opened to the public and gives tours of the house. 4) Philadelphia Art Museum
The front steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art are best known as the Rocky Steps. Training to fight Apollo Creed, Rocky, ran up these steps in one of the greatest musical montage moments. Tourists visiting the museum will often mimic Rocky’s famous celebration at the top of the stairs. The bronze Rocky statue is off the the right of the steps. If you run up the steps, do yourself a favor and visit the museum. It’s pretty impressive. You can run up the Rocky steps at 26th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
3) Ride the Hogwarts Express
The magical train that takes Harry Potter to Hogwars is a real train that you can ride. The National Railway Museum gives Potter fans a chance to ride in the GWR 4900 Class 5972 Olton Hall train. You can catch a ride at The National Railway Museum in York, England.
2) A Christmas Story House
The house where Ralphie almost shot his eye out is now a museum. A Christmas Story House, was restored to how it looked in the film. You can now tour the Parker House which includes a leg lamp in the front window. The museum features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film. 1) Sidi DrissHotel (Star Wars Hotel)
Located in Tunisia, The Hôtel Sidi Drissis better known as the Lar’s homestead on Tatooine. This is easily one of the most famous filming locations from the films. Now its a hotel! Built centuries ago, this is traditional Berber house. Two hundred miles away you can find the exterior location. This is quite a trek to visit. Don’t expect to get any of Aunt Beru’s Blue Milk. If you want to sleep where Luke Skywalker did, you can visit the hotel at Matmata – Hotel Sidi Driss – Troglodyte
