Poor Thanksgiving. Overshadowed by Halloween and Christmas Turkey Day, has now become the start of the Christmas shopping season more than anything else. With the exception of a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving there really isn’t many Thanksgiving TV specials. Luckily, certain TV shows have episodes celebrating Thanksgiving. With the thought of next weeks turkey leg in my mind I came up with the Essential Seven Thanksgiving Themed TV episodes:
7) Full House: The Miracle of Thanksgiving
The Tanner family celebrates their first Thanksgiving without their mother. Frozen turkey, dropped “Picture Perfect Pumpkin Pie,” and bad Dave Coulier voice impressions leads to a disastrous Thanksgiving. Luckily, this is Full House and everything works out with a hug and Michelle saying something adorable.
6) South Park: Helen Keller: The Musical
The “Thanksgiving Extravaganza”, have the boys performing the story of Helen Keller, starring Timmy as Helen. Helen’s pet dog is replaced with a disabled turkey named Gobbles. This is truly the most “retarded” play you will ever see.
5) The King of Queens: “Supermarket Story”
Carrie is guilted into agreeing to making a homemade Thanksgiving dinner. Carrie, Doug, and Arthur go grocery shopping where Doug runs into an old friend he can’t remember.
4) Cheers: Thanksgiving Orphans
The gang from Cheers spend Thanksgiving together instead of with their families (not sure why). Carla’s gigantic turkey, the gang dubbed “Birdzilla’ takes forever to cook. Tension begins to rise. Before they eat the gang begin to argue and a food fight ensues. This was supposed to be the episode where we would finally see Norm’s never-seen wife Vera. The writers of course doesn’t allow us to see her face when she gets hit by a pie.
3) Friends: The One With All The Thanksgivings
Chandler remembers the Thanksgiving where his parents told him they were getting a divorce. Phoebe then tells how in a past life she served as a World War I field hospital nurse. We also learn about the Thanksgiving when Joey got a turkey stuck on his head. Monica then remembers back in 1987, Ross brings Chandler home for Thanksgiving where Monica overheard Chandler call her fat. Rachel remembers the 1988 Thanksgiving where a now skinny Monica tries to seduce Chandler accidentally dropping a knife and severs his toe. This just leads to another reason why Chandler hates Thanksgiving.
2) The Brady Bunch: The Un-Underground Movie
Greg decides to make a home movie about the Pilgrims for his history class. The Brady clan plays both the pilgrims and the indians. However, the other Bradys have their own ideas about how the movie should go and they soon take over. Look for a lot of really inappropriate American Indian impressions. How!
1) How I Met Your Mother “Slapsgiving 2″ Revenge of the Slap”
In an earlier episode Barney, lost a bet giving Marshall the option of slapping him 10 immediate slaps or 5 to be doled out anytime “from now till eternity.” Throughout the seasons Barney would be randomly slapped. On Thanksgiving, Barney learns that he will receive his fourth slap in the face from Marshall who has renamed the holiday Slapsgiving.
