Mattel DC Universe Infinite Heroes Crisis Series

Mattel’s newest addition to the DC Universe line is the Crisis Series.  Crisis takes the DC classic line characters and scales them down to 3.75 inch scale. Characters included in the Infinite Heroes line will not be in the Classics line this year. This will avoid  having duplicates of the same character on toy shelves.  Figures are available in single carded and three-pack figures.

Packaging
The new Crisis Series three packs come in a wide, angled cornered box. A full-panel window features the three figures inside with the hand graphic behind them. The single cards have a similar design with the exception of the plastic bubble excentuates the fingers in the hand creating a three-dimensional effect. The bottom of the packaging features the name of the character(s) with the pack or figure number. The back provides character biography and statistical data.

Bizarro
Bizarro comes packaged in the three pack along with Wonder Girl and Supergirl. The opposite of Superman, Bizarro wears the red and blue costume just like “The Man of Steel,” with the exception of the backwards “S” symbol. Bizarro has the standard ten points of articulation on the neck, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, and knees. Bizarro is not fully poseable as other figures. The big bulky design limits you on posability. The facial sculpt is very impressive and really making Bizarro worth the price of the three-pack.

Wonder Girl
Wonder Girl comes equipped with two cuff bracelets and a giant gold bustier. Unfortunately the character design doesn’t work very well with female figure sculpt.  The standard female body shape makes the women (and Robin) of the DC Universe look so small and dainty. Wonder Girl has the minimum eight points of articulation at the neck, shoulders, torso, hips, and knees. Her and Supergirl both come with a clear plastic stand to help her stay up. There really is no way to stand her without it. In fact the female body shape doesn’t allow many different ways to pose her.

Supergirl
Clark’s Kryptonian cousin is dressed in her provocative red and blue suit. The short skirt and belly shirt really changes the way you look at the Superman suit. It really is a good design. Her red with yellow trim cape is solid plastic as is the skirt. The figure has the minimum eight points of articulation at the neck, shoulders, torso, hips, and knees for DC Universe female characters.

Alex Luthor
Lex and Lois’s son Alex comes dressed in his “not so manly” gold suit. This only proves that once again certain costumes work, and others don’t. I mean seriously can a person feel intimidated by him? Alex has the standard ten points of articulation on the neck, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, and knees. Finally, Alex’s head has a very good facial sculpt with the determination and pompous “Luthor Look!”

Overall
I really enjoy the DC characters in the 3 3/4 inch scale. I have far to many 6 inch versions of these characters, that a new size is welcome. The choice of Bizarro, Wonder Girl, and Supergirl three pack makes sense. Other three-packs contain a weird mix of characters. I’m sure in the end its to help sell some weaker characters.

The two female characters are so small compared to the large Bizarro. I wish there was a way to get more posability out of Supergirl and Wonder Girl. They are so “front heavy” that it keeps them off balance.
