Sectaurs

sectaurscatalogpage
I recently unearthed my original Skulk Sectaur, and put him on my shelf. But then I came across Pinsor, with Battle Beetle, at a vintage toy store (Eternia Dreams) and snatched him in my grubby claws. Now that I had a good guy Sectaur, I could set up a proper photoshoot. Actually this photo was specifically designed to look like a scan from an old Sears Wishbook catalog page. This is the time of year that I used to pour through those pages, dreaming up my wish list and what I hoped to find under the tree Christmas morning. Grail Acquisition: Vintage Dagobah Playset

dagobah_09
When I was a kid I always wanted “Yoda’s House” playset; this was one of the mighty grails that I never got. But now I’ve restored one and collected all the figures on the packaging, I’m ready to celebrate and show off. I had been eyeballing purchasing a vintage Dagobah playset for some time, but it was finding a mostly complete set with a box in good condition that made this too hard to pass up. Not only is the box in reasonable condition, but I love the retail stickers on it. Not only was this particular box clearanced, it ended seems it ended up at $3! THREE DOLLARS?! Holy crap.

Click below for a ton more pics, including my attempt at recreating this packaging shot.

Vintage Playmobil Space

It took quite a few eBay auctions and connecting with collectors all over the world, but I finally completed these two vintage Playmospace sets from Playmobil. I have plenty of time right now so I worked to replicate the general look of the 1980s catalogs in the studio. Click below to see more 80s playmobil goodness!

Essential Seven ’80s Power Ballads

There’s just something about summer that makes me go back to those great (and not so great) power ballads of the 1980s. It may be that I spent most of my summers in the 1980s watching Mtv and riding around the neighborhood on my bike with a boom box blasting Motley Crue and Poison songs. Whatever it is, I do love a good power ballad on a hot summer day. Several summers ago, just as YouTube started up, I revisited many power ballad videos that I hadn’t seen in nearly 15 years and came to love the goofy world contained within them. In fact, after watching several of the videos on this list, I remember walking out to my car and wishing that I could stop in the middle of the road and shred a really awesome solo while wearing a leather duster without a shirt on underneath (the uniform required for a power ballad to assert one’s masculinity).

So, I thought it might be fun to compile my Essential Seven Power Ballads. Please note, I prefer to use the term “power ballad,” as opposed to “hair ballads,” as I would not call all of the bands on this list hair bands. Oh, and don’t tell me that I forgot Damn Yankees’ “High Enough.” It was released in 1990.

Total Toy Zone 1: Transformers (special edition)

I posted the original video back in February. Back then, I was able to get the original digital file onto VHS, but had no reliable means to get VHS back into my computer, so I just focused the camera on my big screen TV. Anyway, I now have a VHS-PC connector, and I just used it on this. It’s much cleaner, and you should be able to see the transformers better. I’m working on “unearthing” additional episodes. Enjoy!
