21st Century Toys P 47D Thunderbolt Razorback (Peg 0’ My Heart)
by Lando da Pimp
In 1943, the raids on Germany were launched using the B17 and B24 from England. The aim was to destroy German main production factories. With great loss of planes during these missions, it became urgent to develop a new fighter with the capability to escort bombers on these raids. With the development of the P-47, the problem of short-range planes was overcome. The P-47 was the first fighter to be able to reach the same high altitude as the bombers. The addition of a supercharger was the solution. Equipped with drop tanks for longer range, the P-47D was then able to escort the bombers all the way to the German border.
The P-47 Thunderbolt is loaded with very realistic details. With a 28" wingspan this is a very large airplane. One of the features of the plane is the moveable bubble canopy to place the pilot in the single seat cockpit. This version of the P-47 Thunderbolt is the "Peg O' My Heart" version. The plane is painted in invasion strippingdark body with white stripes and appropriate markings. Just like all of the other products from 21st Century Toys the small details of the plane are what make these planes very realistic. An example of this is the small type on the engine propeller and the graphics on the side. The ailerons, flaps, elevator and rudder are now hinged making it easier to operate this plane. The plane also comes with two different removable bombs that fit underneath the plane. One articulated pilot is also included.
