Family Guy Presents Episode IV:A New Hope
Smallville Season Six Trading Cards
by Lando da Pimp
Inkworks Cards has two new trading cards sets available, Family Guy presents Episode IV A New Hope & Smallville, Season 6.
Family Guy presents Episode IV A New Hope
The Family Guys 2007 season premiere was one of the best Star Wars parodies ever made. The special episode called "Blue Harvest" (named after the secret title for Return of the Jedi) took all of the characters from the show and placed them into the world of Star Wars.
The card set is made up of 50 cards featuring the characters and scenes from the special episode. Also included are randomly-inserted bonus cards which include a nine-card set that makes up a puzzle. Nine die-cut foil cards featuring the ships and vehicles from the show. Six cards featuring dialog that you didn't see in the original film.
Six cards of "Scenes from Space" allow you to create your own space scene using the Family Guy characters, along with three "Droid Chat" cards of Quagmire as C-3PO and Cleveland as R2-D2!
Smallville: Season Six
Smallville continues to get more exciting with the addition of new super hero characters and Clark slowly becoming the Man of Steel. Inkworks now has a new 90 card set featuring characters, scenes, and key events that happened over the course of the year.
Along with the base set of cards, collectors can also find several random bonus cards. Each box contains one autograph card from nine of the different actors on the show including Justin Hartley who plays Green Arrow and Aaron Ashmore who plays Jimmy Olsen. Eleven Pieceworks Cards featuring pieces of costumes from the show are also included one per box (1:36 packs). These include T-shirt worn by Tom Welling as Clark Kent and a Top worn by Kristen Kreuk as Lana Lang.
Also randomly found is a nine card puzzle of the "pre-Justice League" characters, six cards on Clark's abilities, a three card set showcasing the Green Arrow debut, and a special case loader card of the Wrath of Zod.
Overall
I really enjoyed the Family Guy trading cards, and love that the design resembles the old Star Wars card design. I would have liked a more exclusive autograph card from Seth McFarlane or even the voice over cast like the other Family Guy sets. The Smallville Season 6 cards are more enjoyable now that we have more superhero characters. While the show has always been a lot of fun, the lack of costumes made previous season set cards less exciting. Both of these card sets are a lot of fun to look at, and they do a good job of translating the look of the show into the design. My only real complaint, and this goes for all cards, what happened to the flour covered hard pink stick of gum? I loved that stuff.
