LEGO Castle: King’s Castle Siege
Set 7094
By Lando da Pimp
The knight theme has been a constant stable in the LEGO line and they continue to be an important theme with the new LEGO line, simply titled Castle. In Castle, the King and his Knights battle the evil sketleton warriors while also defending their castle against the flying dragon.
The King's Castle Siege is made up of 973 pieces, more than any other castle set of late. It also comes with an impressive amount of mini-figures. Included is the King, with his five knights, the skeleton commander, and three skeleton troopers.
The Castle measures about 15" wide with a large open courtyard in the middle. In front are two towers on either side with a drawbridge that can raise and lowered along with a gate. A larger tower overlooks the castle in the backwall. At the top of the tower sits the King's throne and Knights treasure.
The set is a long, but enjoyable build. All together I spent under three hours constructing this massive structure. I have either gotten use to the color scheme or LEGO has made it easier to distinguish between the light and dark gray blocks and black. I was also happy to see that each wall in the set is different from the other, eliminating repetitive steps.
I have been disappointed with other castle sets that utilize the large molded blocks for the walls. While the set does use these large blocks, they are used only for the main foundation, and a majority of the set is built with blocks.
The castle has a number of fun features. In front on either side is a launching catapult. As mentioned earlier the working drawbridge and gate protect keep the evil skeleton army from entering the castle. A breakable wall on the right however can't keep them out forever.
While not enough to count as a full army the Knight mini-figures consist of a mounted soldier, two crossbowmen, and two axemen and of course the King. The King is dressed in a gold metal crown. His sword is used to lock the Knight. Each mini-figure head is unique, allowing a recognizable difference between the knights. The Skeleton commander comes equipped with pants, armor, and helmet. The Skeleton army is made up of three white and one black skeleton with a large sword.
Equipped with the castle is a Dragon very similiar to the Harry Potter Goblet of Fire set. I find the dragon to be a bit kid like. It doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the set.
Overall
This is a fantastic castle set, easily one of the best. I really like the simple design of the set. Previous castles have been too complex. This set has a high-level of playability and customization.
The details of this set are also amazing. Throughout the castle are numerous torches providing that extra level of realism. Two Lion-Head pieces that house the chain add that extra level of detail construcition to the drawbridge. The set is not flawless. The walls are only connected at the bottom of the set. This makes it very difficult to move the set from its building location, without taking it apart.
With a nice large castle that is extremely fun to build and play with, and a large number of mini-figures this set is easily recommended.
