Star Wars Y-Wing (Set 7658)
If you have been collecting LEGO Star Wars sets you may question why LEGO is releasing another Y-Wing set. The reason! This design is far superior to the previous versions (excluding the Ultimate Collectors Series 10134). The biggest change from the previous incarnations are the details. This new version of the Y-Wing is a closer, smaller version of the Ultimate collectors series.
The Rebel Alliance fighter has more movie-accurate details then its LEGO predecessors. First is the color. The cockpit of the ship utilizes the recognizble yellow stripe seen in the film, and has the twin nose-mounted laser cannons and movable cockpit turret. The most interesting and improved build of the ship is the twin engine nacelles. These are very detailed and a lot stronger than previous versions.

On the back of the ship is a lever that releases a series of bombs from the under the ship when pulled out. An opening on top of the ship allows you to reload the bombs from the top. Two torpedoes are located on either side of the wing. These can only be released by pushing them out from the back. Behind the cockpit sits the astrometrich droid. The width of the ship doesn't allow for the droid to sit in the compartment facing the cockpit different from how the droids sit in the movie. The set also includes a rebel pilot.

Overall
The best thing to say about the new LEGO Y-Wing set is to quote Red Leader from A New Hope "Almost There." This is the best of the smaller (sans ultimate collector version) LEGO sets. The details and colors match the film version of the ship with the exception of how the droid sits. A few simple changes and this would be close to perfect.
