LEGO's Bionicle Metru Nui

Metru Nui is the lastest Bionicle line from LEGO. For those who are new to Bionicle is a brief synopsis:

In the world of Bionicle lies a city of called Metru Nui. This city of Legends is threatened by, Morbuzakh, a monstrous plant. The only thing to stand in Morbuzakh's way is the power of the six Great Disks. The Matoran, who know the secrets of the disks, need to be found by the Toa Metru before the city of Metru Nui is lost.

The Toa Metru
The Toa Metru feature 13 points of articulation with most parts rotating 360 degrees. On the back of each Toa Metru is a gear that allows both arms to move when turned. A different weapon is provided with each Bionicle along with a unique Kanobi mask. The Toa Metru is the larger of the Bionicles. LEGO sent us three of them:

• Vakama, Toa Metru of Fire
  Toa Metru of Fire and guardian of Ta-Metru, Vakama is equipped with a Kanoka disk launcher and disk and wears the Great Mask of Concealment.



• Whenua, Toa Metru of Earth
  Black Toa Metru of Earth and guardian of Onu-Metru, Whenua is equipped with twin earthshock drills and wears the Great Mask of Night Vision.



• Nuju, Toa Metru of Ice
  Toa Metru of Ice and guardian of Ko-Metru, Nuju is equipped with twin crystal spikes and wears the Great Mask of Telekinesis.

The Matoran
The smaller of the Bionicles, the Matoran, feature 7 points of articulation. Each Matoran comes with a disk launcher and a Kanoka disk.

• Ahkmou, Po-Metru Matoran
  Ahkmou, a carver, is missing from his work area in Po-Metru.



• Tehutti, Onu-Metru Matoran
  Tehutti, an archivist, is missing from his job in the Onu-Metru archives.



• Orkahm, Le-Metru Matoran
  Orkahm, an Ussal rider, is missing from his home in Le-Metru.

This was my first look at the world of Bionicle. They remind me of the expert sets that LEGO produces. I used to love building those sets with all the gears and pieces that made the sets move.

The removable masks of the Toa Metru are the very cool. When you put some light behind the clear colored block in their eyes, the color shines through the eyepieces of the masks creating a really cool effect. The articulation is great. You can easily set up each Bionicle in any position. I am amazed how popular these have become. Now that I have a few of them I can see why.

The Bionicle Metru Nui are now available with a retail price of $7.99 for the Tao Metru and the $3.99 for the Matoran.
