LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants "Big Bob"
Set 3826
By Lando da Pimp
In an attempt to steal the top secret Krabby Patty recipe, the evil Plankton, squeezes into SpongeBob’s head taking control of his body. Plankton has taken over his brain making him do some wild things! I like the idea that this is a robot SpongeBob but either way it’s a kick ass LEGO set. Check it out:
SpongeBob is a 445 LEGO piece, 12-inch tall construction set. Peering in the inside SpongeBob’s head from the back you can see the controls and instrument panels that control him. With a turn of the gears, SpongeBob’s eyes rotate around. The bottom level of SpongeBob’s head contains the catapult that launchs out jellyfish from his mouth. You can also change SpongeBob’s mood from happy to alarmed.
The design of SpongeBob uses his trademark red tie, tube socks, black shoes, and of course his square pants. The build of the set uses a majority of blocks making it similar to how you would build a housing structure. An interesting choice was to use levers for his eyebrows. Plankton, is also included using three round bricks with two green levers for his antenna and a sticker that wraps around for his face.
Overall this is a fun set for fans of SpongeBob. I do have a few ideas that would have been a sweet addition to the set. I would have loved to seen a back cover that opens up to reveal the inner workings of SpongeBob. The back of his square pants should also lower revealing his tighty-whities similar to what happens on the cartoon. These two little additions would have made this even sweeter. While the set is supposed to be SpongeBob I also like the idea of it being a giant robot that Plankton controls.
