Sideshow Collectibles'
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Giles 12"
by Lando Da Pimp
Enjoy Giles while you can, as this is the last of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer 12" figures for the time being. Sideshow confirmed at Toy Fair that the Buffy / Angel line is going on hiatus. Of course sales of this figure can easily influence the status so buy two! On to the review.
Giles, The Watcher
As Buffy's Watcher, Giles is responsible for knowing all things occult and mystical as well as train the Slayer. A majority of the time Giles's was often buried in a book, looking for the answer in beating the latest demon or vampire. At times he also fought alongside Buffy in battle. His more important role became the role of seragate father after Buffy and Dawns mother passed.
No surprise that Sideshow was able to nail the sculpt of Anthony Stewart Head. I assume the figure is based on the episode "Fear Itself," because of the inclusion of the demon Gachnar. He of course turned out to be a small little demon that could be trampled. I didn't get a chance to see if the figure costume is based on the episode, but its not that much different from what Giles usually wore. Dressed in a gray suit with removable jacket to reveal a tie and vest. The outfit is dead on likeness.
Giles comes equipped with interchangeable hands, a sword, large wooden cross, and of course removable glasses. Also, as stated earlier a small demon Gachnar. Giles has an amazing 30 points of articulation allowing for multiple poses.
Overall
I'm sad to see that this will be the last Buffy figure for this year. We have a number of characters yet to go. The Giles figure fits in nicely with the rest of the sideshow line. The sclupt and paint job are excellent and I am glad to see that the glasses are removable. A nice accessory would have been to include a handkerchief to clean his glasses. The Buffy line continued to improve with each figure.
