Repro-D2 (step by step)

ReproD2_06
I’ve been surviving quarantine by purchasing vintage toys and taking studio photos. I felt like my original Kenner R2-D2 was showing his age and wasn’t looking his best in photos. It worked great for Dagobah and some Tatooine photos, but if I were to properly emulate Kim Simmons’ catalog photos, he would appear pristine. I found a beater R2 at a comic shop for $10 and finally got around to restoring him. I 3D printed a third foot to boot. Click below for the step by step.

MOTU Origins Vehicles

panthor_11
I got flocking lucky. Through some perseverance and oh-so-many visits to the same stinkin’ Wal*Marts day after day, I have a fuzzy Panthor in my ranks. Hoo-ray! Is Panthor or Battle Cat really a vehicle or a character? I feel like officially it would be an Accessory, but that sounds like a purse. Maybe it’s a deluxe figure? Battle Cat had a speaking role in the cartoon. Is this another Turbo Teen debate waiting to happen? Let’s take a look at Battle Cat, Panthor, Land Shark and the Sky Sled. Boglins are back

swampbog
Boglins are back, baby! I was a huge fan of the rubbery monstrous Boblin puppets in middle school in the 80s. I saved up my money for weeks to afford a Bog-O-Bones. (That’s my original Bog-O-Bones in the photos below, that I kept safe all of these years). But here we are, 30 years later, and Boglins have gotten a new opportunity to creep into your houses and wreak a little mischief, thanks to a super successful Kickstarter campaign with TriAction Toys. Click below for more details and tons of pics. …continue reading Boglins are back

Time Travelers Poker Game

CompositeFinal_nosmoke
During quarantine, I’ve filled my time by giving myself complex photo assignments. I thrive on having a project that I can’t solve immediately. I need to work out composition, sourcing props, figuring out lighting, taking the photo and finalizing it for its final form. My latest photo composition asks what if pop culture’s time travelers that visited the old west all played poker together? I wanted an image that was pleasing enough to warrant looking at it for awhile, but if you dig a little, you’ll find props from all three shows. I’ve put together props from Back to the Future III, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and the Season 5 cliff hanger of Star Trek the Next Generation (when Data’s head blows off and he ends up in 1880s San Francisco) all into one big poker game. Read on!
