Concert: The Naked and Famous @ 9:30 Club

80’s Dance/Pop masters from New Zealand The Naked and Famous wrapped their tour by performing in DC at the 9:30 Club last night. I was there taking pics on the right side of the barricade. Here are my pics.

I recently picked up the album off of iTunes and have been enjoying listening to their music. If you’re not familiar at all with TNAF, there’s a good chance you’ve heard their #1 song Young Blood (listen), which has a very catchy, synthy sound.
The Setlist

If you know me, you know my favorite genre is 70s classic rock. I typically eschew contemporary Top 40. But dammit, I keep getting these songs stuck in my head, and I wanted to see them in concert. It turns out they were swinging by DC before heading back to NZ.

I may be way off here, but their sound reminds me of Tears for Fears if TFF knew what they know now about dancey hits. (There’s a strong Everybody Wants to Rule the World thing going on) Also check out their songs All of This and Girls Like You. When Punching in a Dream started playing, most of the crowd woo-hooed, so that may be the next hit to cross over. Oh, and speaking of songs, check out their video for Sun. Good lord, it’s all kinds of nakedy. I watched it a few times to make sure. (nsfw)

The crowd in awe.

Listen to a few of their songs and see what you think. I was surprised that the audience was 20-30 somethings last night, I was afraid I might be in the minority (one month to 34) last night, but surprisingly I was part of the crowd. I’m hoping TNAF take off, I think they have the chops.

I loved taking pics last night from the photography pit. I’ll have a Nevercap blog post about that pretty soon. So if you like reading about ISO and aperture, stay tuned. In the meantime, here are the pics I took.
