Essential Seven Cartoons Based on “R” Rated Movies

A weird thing started happening with cartoons in the ’80s. Studios began producing cartoons based on “R” rated films. Movies that kids aren’t allowed to see suddenly showed up on Saturday mornings in toon form. Why? Well I assume the thinking that if the concept works for adults, tone down the language, violence, and nudity and you have an instant kid classic! Take the film Friday. The filmĀ revolves around Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker), who must pay a drug dealer $200 by Friday night. Wow, that sounds like a show kids should see!
