STAR WARS LEGO WEEK DAY FOUR
With all of the new LEGO Star Wars sets, Millionaireplayboy.com, will feature a new Star Wars set every day this week. Today we take a look at the Star Wars Imperial Landing Craft (Set 7659)
Star Wars Imperial Landing Craft (Set 7659)
To transport Stormtrooper detachments down to a planet, the Empire used the Imperial Landing Craft. This ship was originally developed in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (EU) and added into the Episode IV: A New Hope Special Edition.
The ship is based on the tri-foil design similiar to the Imperial shuttlecraft, just not as slick. The ship is made up of three wings, two side-mounted that fold up for landing, and a central dorsal wing. Turning the gear in the back of the shuttle raises and lowers the side-mounted wings. Twin blaster cannons equipped on the front cockpit with two dual firing torpedo launchers.
The main body of the shuttle is made up of the troop compartment. Three compartment doors on either side provides access to the troops. For easier access the craft detaches from the cockpit / wing assembly of the shuttle using a well designed release mechanism. A red hinge on either side of the compartment holds the ship together. The interior of the compartment is a tight squeeze. In the middle of the chairs allow two of the Stormtroopers to sit. The other two stand on either side of the ship with the gun holders. The set includes mini-figure Imperial pilot, 2 Sandtrooper and 2 Stormtrooper minifigures with blasters.
This was a surprisingly fun set to build for a ship I didn't care about. Expanded Universe is very boring for me even though Lucas included it into the Special Editions. The biggest surprise is LEGO has finally included blasters for the Stormtroopers. Now if we can only get weapon packs for the Sandtroopers. The ship is well designed with a good number of mini-figures and would easily help build up your Stormtrooper army.
