with Jager

Who needs friends when you have Mongers? These mini-figures from the mind of Frank Kozik come to liven up our desks, computer monitors, dash boards, or any other nook that needs filled. They are undeniably Kozik creations with cigarettes in their mouths, ďevilĒ eyes, and the Kozik X between the eyes applied to a variety of items you may encounter in your day and a few I hope you donít (like a grenade). Freebento.com thought these little toys were pretty cool, and sent a few over for us to check out.

This is exciting to some, but it makes some collectors insane trying to find the missing piece to complete their collection. For a line like this, I enjoy the blind packaging since Iím not interested in getting the whole set. There are a few I like more than others, but this is the kind of toy I would pick up at the register as an impulse buy because I think they are so funny. There is two mystery figures and one bonus clear/red slug per case. The bonus figure isnít counted as a chase, just a bonus. So there has been some confusion tracking down the full set list between this and the free toys kidrobot is giving out for certain promotions. But like I said, this isnít too much of a concern to me since Iím not a completist of Kozik toysÖ.. But boy itís driving some people crazy!

Click here! The characters in the line are hilarious. It really cracks me up to see a banana look so tough with a cigarette and foul look on his face. And the cigarette smoking a cigarette? Thatís just classic. But I think the best of the line is Elwood, the moonshine bottle. I love how his shape isnít perfectly straight. He has a bit of a curve to him like heís leaning forward. And the X on his forehead has been incorporated into the XXX used to denote the potency of the alcohol inside. He has a real personality. Actually, all the toys do. They really crack me up. Have you ever seen such a tough looking watermelon? Itís a testament to Kozikís design that so much can be depicted with so few facial features. There are only eyes and the cigarette. No mouth even! But they all have a feeling to them and it really isnít even the same feeling. Some look tough, some look nonchalant, and some even look a bit depressed. Maybe itís just me, the viewer, bringing these feelings to the table; but they are there in my eyes.

At around five dollars, I think these are a great buy to round out your purchase if youíre out shopping. I have Bob the slug on my console in my truck and he really looks like heís at home there. Also, these are a must have if you are a Kozik follower. They are some fresh designs by him and itís nice to have some more snorkiní toys that arenít labbits.

Freebento.com has these available for your collection, and if you’re into Japanese toys this is the place to look!

Kozik’s site is pretty sweet.  And if you can find an artist who is in better touch with their fan base, I’d like to meet them.
