Click herespacerDC Unlimited's World of Warcraft Series One with jager

With over 8 million players worldwide, it's safe to say that World of Warcraft is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) video game ever. The players of this massive multiplayer online role-playing game don't just play for a little while and stop like your run of the mill console game, oh no! You live this game. This is because you don't just fight (although there is plenty of that), players have professions and create items for use, trade, or selling at local auction houses. There are guilds and factions with friends and some characters you just try to avoid (ugh, the Barrens Chat!). But what gives this game it's most powerful pull is that it grows with you as you go. The learning curve is set just right for you to get more out of the game the more you play. But at the core of all this are the characters. A player has a special bond with their character, or toon. You can have different styles with different armor sets and the way you behave totally depends on your actions in game. DC Unlimited recognized that these characters deserve to be realized in 3D not just because they deserve it, because they look freakin' cool! YouBuyNow thought they looked cool too and sent us a set to check out. Blood and Thunder!!

Click hereIn game there are 10 races (5 Alliance and 5 Horde). DC Unlimited chose four, designed them wearing mostly high level Raid Gear (arguably some of the best in the game) and created some really excellently sculpted toys. First let's look at some sweeping characteristics to the line, and then we'll examine each a little more closely. The first thing that you notice besides the great character design is the sculpting job. These have many delicate cuts. The detail level is off the scale. And more to point, they are extremely accurate to in-game designs. For example, the Undead Warlock is wearing high level shoulder pads that are a mark of courage in the game. When you see someone walking through a city with these on you know they've taken down their share of Allies. Also, the paint applications are very clean and have a nice weathering effect to appear more realistic. The only problem some may have with the line is the lack of posability. There are a few points of articulation at each toys' arms, but that's limited. Being mainly a Designer Toy collector, I'm not put off by this. Also, with such a high level of detail, it's to be expected. These toys are definitely for display only. But that's what they're for, right? Set your warrior next to your monitor and have him guide you through a dungeon with some good karma. Okay, so now you know that the detail on these figures are through the roof throughout the line and the quality control is stellar especially considering these are made in such high production runs. But now let's take a moment to look at each a little closer.

Ol' Rehgar here is mostly wearing The Ten Storms Raid armor. If you're a non-WoW player, a raid is when 5 or
more people team and form a Raid Group. These groups take on harder dungeons (instances) and many higher level instances are designed for raid groups of 10, 20 or even 40 people. Carnage! So this armor is a great design with a wolf theme. The sculpting is great with the details all molded and the scratches and weathering on the pieces is great. I especially love the tartar on his teeth and his tattoo-like brand on his chest. He is caught in a pose with lots of emotion, screaming to the heavens full of blood lust. This is the largest toy of the line and he is one hefty Orc!

Warriors are the heavy hitters of WoW. They just run into a battle swinging for the fences. As such, they want to be decked out in the heaviest of armors and Thargas is doing just that in a complete set of Destroyer Battlegear. I mean the guy even has blades on his shoulders just in case he backs into a monster. His mace is a totally lethal two handed death stick. Again, the details in the sculpt are amazing. The gold trim on the armor is all sculpted and there are some more delicate details on the helmet and mace. This is the only Alliance character of the line much to some players' chagrin, but let's face it the Horde is way cooler. But even though I feel that way, this is my favorite toy of the series and I'm not ashamed to admit it probably goes back to my Junior High love of Gimli from Lord of the Rings.

The undead are the outcasts of World of Warcraft. Think about it: Would you want to hang around with a zombie? Not the best bet for movie night, but when you're staring down uncertain death in a dungeon or quest it's a good feeling knowing someone who feels no pain is fighting with you not against you. Meryl is looking super scary in his Corruptor Raiment. What really sets the fear factor off the charts are those skulls sticking off his should pads. Those really get an enemy player's attention. I really like how his sleeve is torn and you can see a bony arm underneath. I told you they were the undead!

Click hereBlood Elf Rogue: Valeera Sanguinar
The Blood Elves are one of the two newer races available to play. They are extremely fancy (as most elves are) and as you can tell after one look at this rogue, style took a front seat to defense. Her armor appears to be based loosely on the Blood Fang Armor set, but most armor does have pants so I'm guessing that the artists at DC Unlimited took a few liberties to pull in the fanboys (works for me!). Valeera is in a great pose with her cape swooping between her legs like she just did a flip from the shadows and is about to slice your head off. That's the rogue's methods, you know: sneak, sneak, STAB! While being the hottest of the four, she is my least favorite because she's looking down and not engaging the viewer. When you look at her on your shelf you are focusing on her boob...I mean the top of her head. I do like the added cuts on her legs (those aren't mispaints) and her shoulder pads have great details. Also, her hair is a softer rubber for a nice effect.

Click hereOverall, DC Unlimited's first line of toys really shows off the company's skills in spades. This toy line is destined for greatness with the power trifecta of being based on a franchise with rabid fans, supreme sculpting, and tight paint applications for toys with such a high production run. I'm anxiously awaiting the deluxe figures to drop by year's end and next year promises 4 more characters to go to battle with. If you're a World of Warcraft player you NEED these, but you already know that. If you aren't into WoW, they still are a great line of toys for your collection especially if you are into Middle Earth type styles.

You can pick these up at YouBuyNow.com. They also have a great selection of other action figures and toys.

DC Unlimited's site is full of information on upcoming projects including World of Warcraft and a few other lines.

World of Warcraft has a great site full of more information than you thought possible about a video game.

*If you play, look for Jinxies on the Ravenholdt server!*
